CMCO: 31 individuals get compounds for visiting on second day of raya

Although the no visit-ban on the second day of Syawal was in force, 31 individuals who braved themselves to defy it were handed compounds on Monday.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the action was part of a total of 489 compounds issued for various violations of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) during the second day of raya.

Of those, 102 compounds were issued at police stations throughout the country while 387 were issued outside including at roadblocks.

"Many had questioned why police action was so harsh ... even visits during Aildilfiri ended up with compounds.

"However, on the whole, the number of those who disobeyed the order was very small as compared to the rest who complied with the ban.

"I think this has to be done because we have given a lot of warnings before the action is taken," he told a daily press conference here Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said police also arrested 65 individuals for violating the CMCO standard operating procedure (SOP), 57 of whom were remanded while eight others were released on police bail.

He said 153 cross-border roadblocks were conducted nationwide, with 102,852 vehicles inspected.

"Yesterday, on Monday, a total of 738 vehicles trying to cross the state border with the intention of returning to the village were ordered to turn back by police.

"The state with the highest number of cross-border attempts is Selangor with 317 cases; Melaka (89) and Kedah (80)," he said.
