Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said fishing in the pond was not allowed as it involved large crowds.
Thus, he said, the activity was in violation of the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) and could be prosecuted.
"Although fishing is considered a recreational activity, but when it comes to public gatherings such as pond fishing, it is not allowed.
“It (the pond) is not like a big lake where you can practise social distancing there.
“At the pond, many people gather. Whatever activities that are causing people to gather, it is included in the list of activities prohibited during the CMCO.
"If a man quietly go fishing on the edge of a padi field, on the edge of a lake (and the like), no one will be caught," he told a media conference here on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, police arrested and compounded 59 anglers at a fishing pond in Hulu Selangor for violating the CMCO SOP.
