Although efforts to combat COVID-19 have already shown its effectiveness, the government has decided to continue enforcing interstate travel restrictions during this festive season.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the ban would remain in force throughout Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Pesta Kaamatan and Hari Gawai celebrations, to protect the safety and health of Malaysians.
However, he said, the activities of visiting neighbors and families in the same state were allowed, provided they remained in tune with social norms in the new normal and did not gather more than 20 people at a time.
“During this period (of the CMCO), there are several major festivals that will usually involve the movement of people, namely Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Pesta Kaamatan and Hari Gawai. So, I want to remind everyone that the ban on interstate movement is still in force during this period.
"This means… and I beg your forgiveness… for the safety and health of all of us, the ‘balik kampung’ interstate travel for the purpose of celebrating raya is not allowed," he said in a special message here today.
The prime minister said every family should comply with health SOPs such as social distancing, wearing mouth and nose covers, and personal hygiene practices such as the use of hand sanitisers during this festive occasion.
“The Ministry of Health also recommends that the people avoid being in a crowded or enclosed area.
"Even if you want to chat with your guests, keep your distance. You don't have to sit too close," he added.
