Starting tomorrow (May 27), private vehicles will be allowed to carry a maximum of seven people (including the driver) depending on the vehicle capacity during the duration of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, the matter has been gazetted in the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures in the Infected Local Area) (No. 6) (Amendment) 2020.
“For private vehicles, drivers can carry passengers within the vehicle’s capacity as regulated by the Road Transport Act 1987, Act 333.
“If the capacity (of the vehicle) is four passengers, then the driver can bring three passengers, so four people in one car, this is for normal cars.
“But for a vehicle like an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle), it can have one (driver) plus six (passengers).
"It can seat up to seven people because the back seat is long, it can seat three. Three, two, one and with the driver, so it can be seven.
"This regulation will come into effect tomorrow, May 27, 2020," he said at a daily press conference here on Tuesday.
Yesterday, Ismail Sabri said the government had allowed private vehicle owners to carry up to six passengers depending on the vehicle's capacity.
