CMCO: Public transport passengers limited to half their original capacity

Senior Minister (Security Cluster), Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, it was one of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that all parties, especially users and operators of public transport services, should follow to ensure that the aspect of social distancing was achieved.

"From tomorrow onwards, all public transport services will resume operations as before the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to facilitate the people in getting to their workplace.

"For example, if the bus capacity is previously 40 people, now we would only allow 20 people to board the bus at a time. Likewise, in the MRT or LRT, and standing room in the MRT or LRT should also be marked as done in the elevator before this," he said at a press conference here on Sunday.

Ismail Sabri said all users and operators of public transport services were reminded to abide by the government's guidelines and this included ensuring that social distancing and personal hygiene were met.

"We will deploy security forces such as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) and the Malaysian Volunteer Department (RELA) in all public service locations to ensure the SOPs are followed.

"However, for private vehicles, it is allowed up to four passengers of the same family and living in the same house," he said.
