KOTA BHARU: Motorcyclists riding under the influence of drugs were among the offences recorded in a special operation dubbed 'Ops Bersepadu', held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year (CNY) 2022 holidays, last night, said Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) acting director Nik Azhan Ab Hadi.
He said that acts were dangerous as motorcyclists riding under the influence of drugs usually fail to use the brake in time and tend to speed, as well as showing off their skills doing wheelies, and superman (lying on the stomach while riding).
"During the operation, the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) conducted eight screening tests and two motorcyclists tested positive," he told reporters after the operation here last night.
He said personnel from various agencies, namely RTD, Royal Malaysia Police, AADK, Immigration Department, Department of Environment (DOE) and National Registration Department (NRD) were involved in the integrated operation.
Nik Azhan said the operation was focusing on motorcyclists, as the statistics showed that they were the ones who contributed the most to the fatal accident rate in the country.

"The enforcement strategy was to detect motorcyclists and pillion riders under the influence of drugs at the state's main roads so as they do not endanger their lives and other road users," he added.
In a related development, Nik Azhan said beginning Jan 25 until yesterday, a total of 25 motorcycle technical-related offences were recorded and 332 summonses were issued, including confiscating four vehicles.
"115 summonses were issued for expired Motor Vehicle License (LKM) and another 114 summonses were issued for driving without a valid licence," he added.
