Coach SS15: Sweet Irreverence

Coach features pastels and clogs perfect for Spring 2015 – the ultimate prep turned free-spirited nomad. There is a wild carefree spirit to the collection but with noticeable structure and refrain. Seventies inspired looks with shaggy coats and miniskirts that prove to be a new direction for the label. The collection is youthful, playful and a little bit twisted – bringing a London vibe to Coach.

The Coach girl is effortless and intriguing – that’s what we got from the Coach Spring Summer 2015 collection. Faded chiffon tea dresses and flatform pool slip-ons, oversized pastel faux fur jackets and metallic pastel leather clogs. Denoting perhaps a road trip gone wild or outfits for the chic hitchhiker from one of Harmony Korine’s films (i.e. Spring Breakers).

Stuart Vevers’ new approach brings a breath of fresh air to the label by debuting synthetic fur pieces in delicate pastel hues, sweatshirts and totes with cartoon prints teamed with skirts in shiny leather. Even the spotted print becomes bolder and vivid translating in a touch of absurdity that pervades the collection. However there are looks with a more classic design such as flared pants and sleek tailored blazers. Though what makes the difference are the curiously intense colours while the more feminine dresses in floral silk expose, by way of subtle translucence, the candid panties and tops worn underneath.

Mini shoulder bags in metallic leather, necklaces with metallic pearls, leather totes with cartoon prints, necklaces with pendants, sunglasses with an elongated frame, pastel and spotted bags. The disconcertingly naive cartoon creatures by Californian animator and artist Gary Baseman monkeying around on unassuming shoppers and summer knits to an offbeat outcome.

Still on the open-road theme, Vevers designed Dakota bags in fresh colours – slouchy and silver-studded. Despite the roar of filmic defiant Americana in the collection, the brave mishmash from bleeding leopard-prints, fuzzy textures mixed with off-colour gloss patents, it calls to mind the irreverent beat of England’s street-style kids. This is, after all, the very British Stuart Vevers rearranging a very American establishment. The collection overall has a very editorial feel with its daring colours and unexpected proportions.
Will we see the return of the flare this spring? We think so.
