A committee will be established to propose a recovery plan for Cameron Highlands, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Cabinet has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob to lead a joint committee to study the recovery plan.
"The establishment of the committee was agreed by the Cabinet in its meeting today. We discussed and agreed to implement a short and long term recovery plan for Cameron Highlands," he told reporters after opening the Johor UMNO Convention here, Friday.
Najib said the Cabinet also wanted the enforcement agencies to implement the law in Cameron Highlands by taking action complete with proof.
"When there is no enforcement, then, we are not giving the right signal and nobody will be afraid of the law," he added.
On Nov 5, people living on the banks of Sungai Bertam were directed to move out after water from Sultan Abu Bakar Dam was released in stages due to the rising water level following heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the town of Ringlet was hit by flash floods when the water in the river nearby overflowed the banks after one hour of heavy rain.
The incident claimed five lives while five others were injured.
Illegal land clearing was said to be among the factors leading to floods and landslides in Cameron Highlands.
