Company, director fined RM20,000 for selling uncertified communication equipment

PETALING JAYA: A computer retail company and its director were fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court here today, for selling uncertified communication equipment, as required by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Judge Jamaludin Mat imposed the fine on All IT Hypermarket Sdn Bhd, and its director, Yee Pong Pin, 62, after the man pleaded guilty to two charges which were read out to him in Mandarin.
The court meted out a fine of RM10,000 for each charge, in default of 12 months' jail if both failed to pay the fine. Both settled the fine.
All IT Hypermarket, and Yee, as the director of the company, were alleged to have sold communication equipment, namely a Joyroom microphone, which did not meet the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000.
The two offences were committed at Lot 3-01, Digital Mall, Section 14, here, at 12.42 pm, June 26. Both were charged under Regulation 16 (1) (b) of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or six years imprisonment or both, upon conviction.
Also in the same court, another company, and its director, pleaded not guilty to two charges of selling uncertified communication equipment.
LC Marketing Network Media Sdn Bhd, and its director, Chen Kaiyi, a Chinese national, were charged with selling two units of TX-3 brand wireless media players that were not certified as required by the Communications and Multimedia Regulations 2000.
The offences were allegedly committed at KS-01, Digital Mall, Section 14, here, at 12.57 pm, June 26, 2020, and charged under the same regulations.
The court set Dec 23 for re-mention of the case.
