KUALA LUMPUR: Compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) in recreational areas and tourist spots must be stepped up to prevent any untoward incident and curb the spread of COVID-19.
Ikatan Komuniti Selamat chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said this was following the attitude of some individuals who did not take the issue of compliance with the SOP seriously.
"In terms of SOP compliance, there are still people who do not observe physical distancing when visiting recreational areas. They must remain vigilant, even after being fully vaccinated because they can still get infected with COVID-19.
"The level of public compliance with the SOP is still not satisfactory. They must strictly adhere to the SOP as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 threat," he told Bernama today.
Describing the reopening of recreational areas as a timely move for the country's economic recovery, he urged operators of recreational parks to ensure that their facilities were well maintained to ensure visitors' safety and prevent untoward incidents.
Lee said apart from taking preventive measures against COVID-19, priority should also be given to ensuring all the facilities and infrastructure were safe after the recreational parks or areas were temporarily closed due to the pandemic.
