Concessionaires, contractors urged to digitise all maintenance works - Fadillah

Senior Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the culture of adopting digital technology to facilitate the tasks carried out would encourage innovation in improving work quality in line with the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.

He said maintenance works should be carried out with quality at all times, and the relevant parties must be productive by acting quickly as the first contact, first at the site, first to respond and first to update.

“Last year, a total of 5,469 complaints were received via the Public Works Department including 1,336 or 21.92 per cent on road damages, potholes, and uneven and unfinished roads. Unfortunately, many complaints were not made via the official channel but went viral on social media before corrective actions were taken.

“Following that, the ‘Aku Janji Zero Potholes’ campaign launched in 2016 was reactivated, proving the ministry's commitment to good maintenance of roads in the country,” he said in his speech at the 2021 Aspiration with the Ministry of Works Maintenance Contractors, held virtually today.

Meanwhile, Fadillah said the ministry had stipulated that federal road concession companies must ensure that at least 60 per cent of the annual work value be given to Bumiputera contractors.

“The Works Ministry also received an additional Development Expenditure allocation of RM200 million for the maintenance of federal roads under minor maintenance works,” he said.
