KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of National Astronaut Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor Sheikh Mustapha, Datin Dr Halina Mohd Yunos, gave birth to a pair of twins who are their fifth and sixth children at Sunway Medical Centre yesterday.
According to a statement, the twins were born at 9.47 am and 9.48 am respectively.
A baby boy was born weighing 2.26 kilograms (kg), while a baby girl weighs 2.17 kg.
"Dr Sheikh Muszaphar is very happy and grateful everything went well," the statement said on Friday, adding that Dr Sheikh Muszaphar's wife and children were in good health.
Meanwhile, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar in an update on his Instagram page today expressed gratitude for the birth of the twins, describing them as a double joy.
The orthopedic surgeon added he and his wife have had the same experience of having twins before.
"(They are) hungry at the same time, wake up at the same time, sleep at the same time (and) refuse to part.
"(They) only sleep when together. That is the beauty of the twins," he wrote in the entry, today.
Dr Sheikh Muszaphar, 48, and Dr Halina, 39, got married on October 10, 2010.
They were earlier blessed with four children, Sophea Isabella, 9, Sophea Natasha, 7, and twin boys, Sheikh Adam and Sheikh Noah, aged three years.
