Contract worker badly burnt in substation explosion

A contract worker was badly burnt following an explosion today at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation he was painting in Felda Kerteh 3, here.

Faqih Aqwa Mansor, 20, of Sungai Derhaka, Kuala Terengganu, suffered burns on the limbs and back in the incident which happened at about 2 pm when he and four colleagues were at work.

A colleague, Syed Mohd Faadil Syed Osman, 19, said they had been working there since yesterday and were expected to complete the job by this evening.

"I heard a loud explosion and saw flames. I also heard my colleague screaming for help after his shirt and trousers caught fire. I was shocked to do anything," he told reporters.

Another worker quickly grabbed a hose and sprayed Faqih Aqwa with water, he said, adding that Faqih Aqwa was rushed to the Dungun Hospital and then transferred to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.
