The death of information and communication technology (ICT) expert Azli Paat due to high fever at his house in Bukit Segambut yesterday was also felt by the police.
The late Azli Paat was known as the pioneer of the RakanCop - a community policing campaign - which operates as a bridge that connects the police and the public to fight crime.
Assistant Head of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) secretariat (public relations) Bukit Aman, ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf told Astro Awani that Azli’s demise was a big lost to the ICT world in Malaysia.
“His demise is a big lost to the nation especially in this era, where his creative and innovative expertise and ideas are needed,” said Ramli.
He added, Azli helped both directly or indirectly especially in creating the RakanCop system that aids the delivery of information about crime.
RakanCop was created on August 9, 2005 as a medium to close the gap between police and members of the public to prevent crime. The system is operated using two information delivering systems; the RakanCop HOTLINE channel and SMS POLIS which is installed at every Police Command Control Centre (PCCC).
