Police had to fire several rounds of shots before they could finally stop a car and arrest a man believed to be using it for distributing drugs in Jalan Sentul here yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said that police, acting on a tip-off, stopped a Proton Saga driven by a 38-year-old local man and asked the suspect to get out of.
Instead, the man turned aggressive and tried to escape by reversing his car three times and hitting an unmarked police car.
"Police then fired several rounds of shots at the rear right-hand tyre and front tyre but the suspect still tried to flee by driving up the curb. Police then shot the left front tyre and the car came to a stop. Police immediately arrested the suspect,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He said that upon inspection, police found 450 grammes of heroin and 151 grammes of syabu under the front passenger seat of the car and the suspect, a sundry shop helper with five previous drug-related crimes, also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
"The case is being investigated under Sections 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said, adding that the suspect would be remanded today.
Mazlan urged those with information regarding the incident to contact the KL Police Hotline at 03-2155 9999 or the nearest police stations.
