Coroner to decide date of William Yau inquest

The inquest to determine William Yau Zhen Zhong's cause of death will hold its first mention next Monday.

The coroner, a magistrate from the Petaling Jaya court who will be conduct the investigative proceedings, will then decide on a date for the case to be heard.

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Yahaya Ramli said that there are no further preparations required on the side of the police and the list of 54 witnesses are ready.

“The coroner most probably won’t call all of them. They include people pertinent to the case, including the parents of the deceased, the relatives, the police officers including the investigating officer, the forensics team, the doctors,” said Yahaya.

Asked if he was confidence the inquest will be able to determine the exact cause of death or perhaps result in an “open verdict”, Yahaya replied: “I think the court will (be able) to decide.”

On Jan 16, six-year-old William went missing in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, when stopped by an electrical shop to look at some appliances.

His body was found a week later near the Kampung Sungai Sireh jetty in Port Klang.

Investigations into the death more than two weeks but yielded no leads or credible evidence.

The post-mortem on the body, which were in advanced stages of decomposition, also returned a uncertain result.
