Corruption probe: Father of Penang rep remanded

The father of a Penang state assemblyman was remanded for seven days from today to assist in the investigation into alleged corruption involving the purchase of affordable homes in the state.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) obtained the remand order from Lower Courts (Crime) assistant registrar Muna Maria Azmi.

The 68-year-old retiree arrived at the Remand Division at 11.20am and left about 50 minutes later.

He is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.

The MACC arrested the man yesterday to help in the investigation into alleged corruption involving the so-called bribe-for-home deals to obtain affordable homes.

The issue of the bribe-for-home deals came to light last Monday after Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong released a video clip which carried a recorded discussion on making a payment to get a state government house.
