Police have detained a couple who are the main suspects behind an investment scam involving losses of RM20 million.

Bukit Aman (Federal Police) Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the husband and wife, aged 45 and 43 respectively, were picked up in Sri Petaling at 9pm Monday.

"The couple allegedly offered financial consultancy services on investment via advertisements on Facebook.

"The suspects then convinced the public to join the investment scheme provided by their company," he told Bernama here Tuesday.

Acryl Sani said the investment platforms offered were commodities trading, hotel lease, share acquisition and real estate.

"The suspects also claimed that they were agents for several investment schemes that offered high profits, between 50 and 80 per cent, for each of the investment platform," he said.

Acryl Sani also said subsequently, the couple would give the company's account number to the victims to transfer the money.

Police had since received 34 police reports nationwide and 11 investigation papers were opened, he added.
