SIBU: A married couple had a terrifying experience early today when the vehicle they were travelling in with their infant daughter was stranded in the flood.
The family was heading to Kanowit and had to pass through the inundated Jalan Lukut-Penyulau, but the vehicle they were travelling in failed to cross the road which was submerged under 1.2 metres of flood water.
They were, however, rescued by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, which was alerted of the incident at 6.15 am.
According to its spokesman at the Sarawak Operations Centre in Sarawak, a team from the Kanowit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was dispatched to the scene to rescue the couple, aged 41 and 29, along with their four-month-old baby girl.
"Upon arriving at the location, the team found a vehicle trapped in the floodwaters. Using Personal Floating Devices (PFDs), the team waded through the 1.2-meter-deep water to reach the victims," he said in a statement.
The operation concluded at 7:33 am.
According to the spokesman, the couple was en route to deliver vegetables for sale in Kanowit when their attempt to cross the flooded road failed, leaving their vehicle stranded.
