KUALA LUMPUR: Courier service company J&T Express Malaysia Sdn Bhd today apologised for the actions of some of its employees in handling customer packages rudely as viralled on social media.
J&T Express, in an open letter on Sunday, explained that the incident occurred because some employees were dissatisfied with the unclear bonus distribution system.
"Full bonus is paid to employees who have been working for one year and the bonus (for those who work less than a year) is paid according to the time period of the employee (working).
"Due to the lack of clarity of the bonus distribution system among department officials, it led to the violent distribution of packages that took place on February 4 and (they) incited several employees to create joint disruptions, and spread the video to social media," the letter explained.
Previously, a video recording had gone viral showing a group of employees throwing goods at a warehouse.
From the angle of the video recording, it was clear that an employee was throwing packages besides being greeted by shouts from some other staff expressing dissatisfaction with something.
Commenting further, the company said, the Perak state branch management immediately addressed the issue and all employees have returned to work as usual.
The company also explained it will not deduct or owe salaries to employees.
On netizens' allegations that employees stole food and beverages from the packages they handled, the company acknowledged the management's weaknesses.
“Due to the rapid increase in the number of packages during the MCO, J&T took more packages from the community during this period, so the company has hired more temporary workers and only provided basic training to them.
"We have formulated management rules and methods specifically for the settlement and monitoring of similar incidents, as well as resolving (issues) packages that are lost quickly," the open letter explained.
In the meantime, the company explained that it will further improve its services and management as well as express its gratitude for customer support for the company.
