The High Court here enhanced the jail sentence meted out by a lower court to a former police sergeant who was found guilty of committing incest on his stepdaughter two years ago.
Justice Datuk Zamani Abdul Rahim, on Wednesday, increased by six years to 18 years the jail sentence handed down by the Sessions Court last May to Idrus Ayob, 56, when he allowed the appeal by the prosecution.
He ordered that Idrus serve the sentence from the date of sentencing by the Sessions Court on May 3.
The Sessions Court had imposed a 12-year jail sentence on Idrus after finding him guilty of committing incest on his stepdaughter at a house in Jalan Air Itam on Nov 18, 2011.
Idrus was represented by counsel Amirul Fairuzzeen Jamaluddin while Melissa Mohd Awal held a watching brief for the victim's family.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Cheah Yit appeared for the prosecution.
