'Cover-uppers' are just as guilty as criminals: Tun Mahathir
DR MAHATHIR: Those who cover-up and hide evidence of crime is just as guilty as criminals.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said those who conceal evidence of crime is deemed just as guilty as criminals themselves and should face the process of law.
This was because the law says those who cover-up, hide evidence of crime would be aiding and abetting the criminal, he wrote in his latest blog post on chedet.cc.
“But what about those who refuse to (whistle-) blow. What about those who hide the misdeeds which they know. What about the cover-uppers!
“The law says those who cover-up, hide evidence of crime would be considered as accessory to the crime. They would be aiding and abetting the criminal. They too should be charged, tried and sentenced,” the former premier said.
He said “keeping evidence that you have gathered so as to hand over only when the case is proven will not free you from that charge of abetting.”
“There is risk in whistle-blowing. But there is also risk in covering-up, in aiding and abetting,” he said.
Dr Mahathir wondered why the government, after stating that whistle-blowers would be protected, then made a U-turn when the whistle is blown on the head of government.
“The Government says the whistle-blowers must be protected. Apparently they are good for our society.
“Then they whistle-blowed over the wrong-doings of the Head of Government. Suddenly what was considered right became wrong. The whistle-blowers must be investigated and punished,” he said.
