COVID-19: 1,229 cases, 6 new clusters, 4 deaths today

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,229 new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total number of positive cases in Malaysia to 83,475.

Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said out of the total, there were two cases of imports infected from abroad besides 1,227 cases of local transmission.

"Selangor is still reporting the highest daily cases with 435 (35.4 per cent of the total cases) of which 344 cases (79.1 per cent) are from clusters and close contact screening of positive COVID-19 cases that are actively conducted in the field.

"This is followed by Sabah with 333 cases (27.1 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur with 131 cases (10.7 per cent)," he said in a statement on Sunday.

A total of 200 cases (16.3 per cent) reported were related to clusters in the Temporary Detention Centres (PTS) and prisons involving the Tembok Cluster (103 cases), Rumah Merah Cluster (78), Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (12), Bakti Cluster (three), Kepayan Prison Cluster (one), PTS Sibuga Cluster (one), Matambai Cluster (one) and Seberang Perai Prison Cluster (one).

At the same time, there were 1,309 recovery cases, bringing the cumulative number of cases fully recovered from COVID19 to 69,393 (83.1 per cent).

To date, there were 115 positive cases of COVID-19 being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 65 cases requiring respiratory assistance.

Dr Noor Hisham said there was an increase of four deaths today, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to 415 (0.50 per cent).

He said one case involved an 83-year-old woman in Kelantan who had diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney problem.

Another death case involved a 60-year-old man with disability (PwD) in Negeri Sembilan who had diabetes, cataract and chronic kidney problem.

Two other deaths occurred in Selangor involving a woman, 44, who had diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problem, obesity and chronic kidney problem, and a 29-year-old man.

Meanwhile, six new clusters have been identified today, namely the Hujung Pasir Cluster, Lestari Cluster, Desa Idaman Cluster, Rimbun Construction Site Cluster, Tanjung Suria Cluster and Kuala Cluster.
