COVID-19: 1,247 new cases, Selangor still leading

KUALA LUMPUR: A total 1,247 new daily COVID-19 cases and three deaths were recorded today with Selangor continuing to record the highest new daily cases, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Dr Noor Hisham said the increase in new cases brought the total number of positive COVID-19 cases in the country to 101,565 cases while the total number of active cases with infectivity at 18,576 cases.
He said that Selangor recorded 461 cases out of the total number of cases today.
'’Of the total, 309 cases were from clusters and COVID-19 close contact screenings which were actively conducted in the field,’’ he said on the development of the current COVID-19 situation today.
He said Sabah recorded the second highest cases, namely, 225 cases followed by Johor (205), Kuala Lumpur (140), Negeri Sembilan (89), Perak (55), Penang (25), Melaka (14), Pahang (11), Labuan (eight), Putrajaya (seven), Kelantan (four) and Sarawak (three).
A total of 211 cases were related to clusters in lockups, immigration detention depots and prisons involving the Elephant Wall Cluster (113 cases); Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (86 cases); Wall Cluster (eight cases); and Pompod Cluster (four cases).
Dr Noor Hisham said 1,441 recovery cases were recorded today bringing the total cumulative recoveries to 82,540 cases while 108 positive COVID-19 cases were being treated in the intensive care units (ICU) with 47 cases requiring respiratory assistance.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were three deaths today involving two locals and a male non-citizen.
He said the locals were a 76-year-old man who died at the Lahad Datu Hospital, Sabah and a woman, 64, who died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital and the third death was a 65-year-old non-citizen male at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan.
He said the addition of the three deaths raised the cumulative COVID-19 death cases in the country to 449 cases.
