COVID-19: 1,683 new infections, three deaths, 24 cases detected in Perlis

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,683 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide in the past 24 hours.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a post on his personal Twitter account informed that the state of Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases with 746 new infections.
Meanwhile, other states that also recorded three-digit COVID-19 cases today were Sarawak with 201, followed by Penang (172), Johor (158) and Kuala Lumpur (125).
Perlis, which has been recording single-digit daily cases for a long time, today recorded 24 new cases.
The states that recorded less than 20 cases were Kedah (15), Kelantan and Pahang with 12 cases each and Terengganu with 10 cases.
Labuan recorded eight new cases, followed by Melaka with three cases and Putrajaya with the lowest with just two cases.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said there were three deaths reported today, bringing the cumulative death toll to 1,169.
The number of recovery cases today almost doubled from new cases when a total of 2,506 cases have recovered.
It brings the cumulative number of cases recovered to date to 291,958.
Dr Noor Hisham also announced that eight new clusters - five involving workplaces, two detention centres and one community transmission - were detected today, taking the total active clusters to 1,199, with 472 still active.
The five workplace-linked clusters were detected in Selangor, namely Kemuning Enam and Jalan Sungai Selangor; Industri Inanam in Sabah; Jalan Industri Tiga in Johor; and Jalan Satu construction site in Kuala Lumpur.
"The detention centre clusters were in Jalan Awang (Sarawak) and DTI Persiaran Wawasan (Perlis), while the new cluster involved a community in Kiba, Sarawak,” he said, adding that 727 clusters had ended, including 14 today
