KUALA LUMPUR:A total of 3,321 COVID-19 recoveries were recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of fully recovered cases in the country to 94,492, or 80.5 per cent of the total number of cases.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of recoveries surpassed the 2,295 new cases recorded today, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases detected in the country to date to 117,373, with 22,398 of them still active.
"Of the new cases today, nine were imported from abroad while 2,286 were local transmissions.
"Selangor continues to record the highest number of new daily cases at 638, with 496 of them being from clusters and screenings done on close contacts of COVID-19 patients, which is actively being conducted in the field. This is followed by Johor, which recorded 580 cases, while Penang recorded 288 cases and Sabah, 259 cases," he said in a statement today.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, 135 cases reported today were related to clusters at lockups, immigration detention depots, and prisons, involving the Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (109 cases), Tembok Gajah Cluster (14), Kolam Air Cluster (three), Tembok Cluster (three), Seberang Perai Prison Cluster (three), Tembok Mempaga Cluster (two) and Tembok Choh Cluster (one).
He added that nine COVID-19 deaths reported today involved nine Malaysians, namely six men and three women aged 41 to 82, while 125 cases were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit with 51 requiring respiratory assistance
