A total of 39 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today with 38 of them involving local infections and one import case.

Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, 74 cases had recovered and discharged from hospital.

"As of May 7, 2020 at 12:00 noon, 39 new cases have been reported, resulting in a total of 6,467 cases of COVID-19 in Malaysia.

"Therefore, the total number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 1,584 cases. They have been isolated and treated," he said at a press conference here Thursday.

Of the 39 new cases, nine cases involved 30 foreigners and 9 locals.

"Please note that out of the 39 new cases reported today, one involves an import case. This means that there were 38 cases of local transmission, of which 8 were detected from the clusters and localities under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO), "he added.

Dr Noor Hisham said no death cases were recorded today.

"Thus, the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia remains at 107 (1.65 per cent of the total)," he added.

To date, 19 COVID-19 positive cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Of these, 8 cases required respiratory assistance.

The MOH also wishes Happy Wesak Day to all Buddhists in Malaysia, especially health workers and frontline members.

"Although mass gatherings and visitation activities are not allowed at this time, the current Wesak Day celebration can still be celebrated with new normal and norms," he said.
