KUALA LUMPUR: The recent increase in COVID-19 cases has caused more Malaysians to feel that the country is now on the wrong track compared to August and September.
According to a study by IPSOS Malaysia, entitled "What Worries Malaysia", the total percentage of respondents who feel the country is on the wrong track has increased to 40 per cent.
At the same time, according to the study, 60 per cent still believed the country is on the right track.
The number of respondents who feel the country is on the right track has continued to decline since the highest rate of 75 per cent recorded in July.
In general, out of the five things that worry Malaysians, COVID-19 and political and financial corruption recorded an increase in October compared to July.
At the same time, in October, indicators on Crime and Terrorism, Poverty and Inequality and Unemployment were down slightly.
Compared to the benchmark of concern about global COVID-19 at 44 per cent in October, Malaysians are far more worried at 77 per cent.
This is much higher than the countries that recorded high daily COVID-19 cases such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain at around 46 to 61 per cent.
