The government's efforts to curb the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic is largely dependent on the compliance of Malaysians to follow the directives during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, said Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health director-general said the role of the people was very important in flattening the curve, as well as allowing health workers more time and capacity to meet the needs of the public's health care.
In his Facebook post, Dr Noor Hisham said every Malaysian should play their part in the fight against the pandemic.
"To all the people, you are the primary determinant of stopping the spread this pandemic. Our hope at this moment is that you will stay home and continue complying with the MCO,” he added.
Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia was going through a very difficult period and each of its people had been affected as a result.
“In addressing the first-ever such outbreak in our nation's history, new measures have been implemented including the Movement Control Order.
“While the current situation is a new experience for all of us, the health sector has been planning and preparing for any eventuality. With the involvement of personnel of all levels, we are doing our best to ensure the safety of all parties,” he added.
He also expressed appreciation for the dedication and sincerity of health personnel both in the public and private sectors while regarding them as extraordinary and amazing.
“Many have left their loved ones at home and sacrificed their time and comfort to be at the front line to care for our patients.
"The ministry appreciates each and every one of you and all the efforts that you have and are making on a daily basis," he added.
Dr Noor Hisham also thanked the contributors and other frontline staff.
“To our donors, we have been very touched to see the generosity of so many individuals and organizations, small and large, local and international.
"On behalf of the frontline personnel, I thank you," he added.
