COVID-19 ICU beds usage hits 83 per cent nationwide - Noor Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR: The Director-General of Health confirmed bed occupancy rate in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) nationwide reached 83 per cent capacity, on Thursday.
Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the situation places the country's health system under tremendous pressure and needed the help of the public, to break the chain of COVID-19 infection.
Based on the data, a total of 11 states and territories recorded high bed usage exceeding 70 per cent.
Among the states and regions are Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Sarawak, Putrajaya, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Melaka.
At the same time, a total of 32 government hospitals nationwide recorded more than 70 per cent of bed usage.
“Practice self-movement control by staying at home.
“If there are important matters outside, make sure to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“Employers are urged to give permission to employees to work from home (WFH) and limit the number of employees present at the office at any one time,” Noor Hisham pleads.
On Thursday, the country recorded the highest new case figure of 6,806 since the pandemic hit the country.
This is worsened by the death toll which reported the highest at 59 cases.
