KUALA LUMPUR: Port Dickson Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that it is not the compound rate that needs to be raised at this time but the enforcement details that need to be clarified.
He stressed that leaders should be good role models for the people to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP).
"We also need to remember that the problem at this time is not just to increase fines, I am worried about those below such as farmers, farmers with their reaction on this matter.
"I do not think the priority at this time is to increase compound rates but the enforcement should be clear and the example comes from the leaders as well.
"In tightening some rules, it must be made clear. I have also asked the policemen who conducted roadblocks which enforcement is used and he said there were a lot.
"So, I think clarity is important regarding what can and cannot be done to facilitate their task," he explained.
He said this in the ‘Bicara Anwar Ibrahim’ session which was posted live on his official Facebook on Wednesday.
In the meantime, Anwar also informed that in the effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the crisis faced by frontline workers including work stress, slow in getting an allowance, cannot be forgiven.
Anwar, who is also the president of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), explained that the matters voiced by the frontline personnel should be given more focus as they are fighting for their lives for the safety of the people.
He also urged that the COVID-19 screening test be more extensive, especially involving areas where new clusters are formed.
