The Ministry of Health (MOH) recorded 36 new COVID-19 positive cases as of 12 noon Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 5,425 in the country.
Its director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number was the lowest number of cases recorded since March 12.
He said there has been no increase in deaths recorded until 12 noon on Monday, with the number of fatalities remaining at 89 cases so far.
"As of noon today, 36 new cases have been reported. This has resulted in 5,425 cases of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia.
"This is the lowest number of daily cases to date. The number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 2,041 cases so far.
"According to the latest information reported by the National Crisis Preparedness and Emergency Response Centre (CPRC), there have been no recent deaths," he said at a press conference here today.
To date, 45 cases of positive COVID-19 are being treated in intensive care units (ICU) with 28 of them needing respiratory assistance.
However, Noor Hisham added, the number of new cases could rise again in the next two weeks as case detection activities are still ongoing.
"The case tracking activity is being carried out especially on Malaysians who have just returned from overseas and in localities involved under the Enhanced Movement Control (EMCO) Order," he said.
