COVID-19: Malaysia logs 1,887 new infections, 3 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported a total of 1,887 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Thursday.
According to the ministry's COVIDNOW portal, there were eight new imported cases and 1,879 local transmissions.
The overall total number of infections in the country now stands at 4,520,852 since the pandemic started.
The Health Ministry also registered another three new deaths with two classified as being brought in dead, taking the total to 35,708.
Meanwhile, there were 1,399 new recoveries recorded, bringing the total number of patients who recovered and discharged to 4,463,070.
Currently, there are 22,074 active cases, with 25 being held in the ICU and 17 in need of breathing assistance.
As of Thursday, Malaysia has administered a total of 8,039 COVID-19 vaccine doses and about 85.7 per cent of the population have received at least one dose, 83 per cent are fully vaccinated and 49.3 per cent have received their booster jabs.
