COVID-19: Malaysia records 1,810 new positive cases, 6 deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded a total of 1,810 new infections, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country currently to 80,309 cases.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said, out of the total, there were 11 cases of imports that received infection abroad while the rest were local transmission.
He said there were 12,734 cases with active COVID-19 infectivity.
According to Dr Noor Hisham, within 24 hours, the state of Selangor recorded the highest daily cases with 829 (45.8 per cent) of which 685 cases were from clusters and close contact screening of positive COVID-19 cases that were actively conducted in the field.
“This is followed by Sabah with 532 cases (29.4 per cent) and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 132 cases (7.3 per cent).
“A total of 184 cases (10.2 per cent) reported are related to prison clusters involving Rumah Merah Cluster (150 cases), Tembok Cluster (18 cases), Bakti Cluster (13 cases), and Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (3 cases). ),” he said in a media statement on Friday.
He said the number of cases being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) so far was 123 and out of that number, 63 cases require respiratory assistance.
He said Malaysia also recorded 937 cases of full recovery, bringing the total number of cases recovered by 67,733 cases.
Within 24 hours, he said, six new deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 402.
