COVID-19: Malaysia reports 2,593 cases, highest ever recorded

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded the highest daily new COVID-19 cases today at 2,593, bringing the total number in the country to 125,438 positive cases.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, out of the total, 2,589 cases were local transmission and the balance four were of imported cases from abroad.
According to him, the total number of active cases with COVID-19 infection is now at 24,347 cases.
He said Selangor still recorded the highest new daily cases with 965, followed by Johor with 571 and Sabah with 405 cases.
"The Ministry of Health Malaysia would also like to inform that today the number of patients recovered from COVID-19 was reported at 1,129 cases. This makes the cumulative number of cases fully recovered from COVID-19 at 100,578 cases (80.2 per cent of the total cases)," he said in a COVID-19 development media conference here on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said there was an increase in new deaths with four cases recorded within the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to 513.
To date, he also said there are a total of 141 patients receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 67 of these patients require respiratory assistance.
