The three-phase Movement Control Order (MCO) initiative in the country continues to bear positive impact as the number of new COVID-19 cases remain at double digits.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 54 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of positive cases to 5,305, and the number of active cases at 2,115.
“Out of the total active cases, 49 COVID-19 positive cases are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, 26 cases require respiratory assistance,” he said at a COVID-19 daily media conference here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said two more deaths had been recorded, raising the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 to 88 or 1.66 per cent of the total number of cases.
“The 87th death (Case 2657) is a 60-year-old Malaysian citizen. He has a background of hypertension and diabetes. He was hospitalized at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 30, 2020 and was pronounced dead on April 17, 2020 at 3.20 pm.
“The 88th death (Case 5252) is a 36-year-old Myanmar citizen. He was hospitalized at the Selayang Hospital on April 17, 2020 with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). He was pronounced dead on the same day at 10.00 am,” he said.
