The Singapore government has provided temporary accommodation for Malaysians working in the republic at the Jurong East Sports Complex, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamaruddin Jaffar.

He said since news broke out that several Malaysians had to stay overnight at a Singapore MRT station as they had no place to stay after the implementation of the Movement Control Order on Wednesday, all the relevant parties had taken prompt action.

He said the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore, in collaboration with the Malaysian Association in Singapore (MASIS) and the Singaporean authorities, had identified the Malaysian workers who faced such problems.

"Wisma Putra has taken the media report seriously. Checks done showed that there were already Malaysians who were occupying the temporary accommodation facilities at the Jurong East Sports Complex.

"I urge Malaysian workers in Singapore who have problems with accommodation or any kind of hardship to contact the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore immediately.

"It is crucial to enable our representatives there to provide appropriate consular assistance," he said in a statement on Friday.

Following the ban on entering the country with the enforcement of the Movement Control Order, there were media reports alleging that some Malaysians working in Singapore were having difficulties as they still have to work.

They were unable to commute from Johor, resulting in several having to spend the night at a Singapore MRT station in Kranji.
