Students at higher education institutions will receive a one-off payment of RM200 in May, in an effort to ease their burden as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
In presenting the RM250 billion Prihatin Rakyat Economic Stimulus Package today, the Prime Minister said the payment would be made to all students in the country.
"This aid involves an allocation of RM270 million to students in various levels of higher education, including matriculation, community colleges, polytechnics, public universities and private universities," he added.
In addition, Muhyiddin also announced the deferment of loan repayments to borrowers of the Skills Development Fund Corporation or PTPK from 1 April 2020 to 30 September 2020.
"With an estimated collection of RM149.2 million, this initiative will benefit 174,500 borrowers," he added.
In presenting the RM20 billion Economic Stimulus Package previously, the government has deferred the repayment of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans to all borrowers for six months involving a sum of RM750 million.
