Three of the four active COVID-19 clusters in Sabah continue to record new cases, with the highest number detected from the Benteng Lahad Datu Cluster at 76 cases of 95 new cases reported today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that this brings the number of positive cases for the cluster to 550 cases, with a total of 7,814 individuals screened in the last 24 hours.
He said that a total of 2,009 individuals were screened in Lahad Datu, while 5,804 individuals were screened in Tawau and one case was screened and tested positive in Sandakan.
“For Lahad Datu, 151 cases tested positive, of which nine are new cases, while 1,306 individuals tested negative and 552 others are awaiting results. In Tawau, out of a total of 5,804 individuals screened, 398 cases were detected positive with 66 of them being new cases, while 4,120 confirmed negative and another 1,286 individuals are awaiting results.
“Of the total 550 positive cases, 271 are Malaysians while 279 are foreigners from two countries, namely, the Philippines (185 cases) and Indonesia (94 cases),” he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, for the Pulau Cluster, also in Sabah, there are four new positive cases reported, bringing the total number of positive cases of the cluster to 14 cases with a total of 345 individuals screened thus far.
“In Kunak, a total of 342 individuals were screened and 11 were found to be COVID-19 positive, 63 tested negative and another 268 individuals are awaiting results. In Semporna, all three screenings were detected positive. Of the 14 positive cases in this cluster, 13 are Malaysians while one is a Filipino,” he said.
Regarding the latest cluster detected in Sabah, the Selamat Cluster, there are three new cases reported today, bringing the total number of positive cases of this cluster to five cases after 137 individuals were screened with 132 of them still awaiting results.
Meanwhile, touching on the Bunga Cluster in Negeri Sembilan, Dr Noor Hisham said there was one new case reported today, bringing the number of positive cases of the cluster to 11.
“As of 12 noon today, a total of 59 individuals have been screened in this cluster. Breakdown of total screening by state; in Selangor 10 individuals were screened with four cases detected positive; in Negeri Sembilan, 45 individuals were screened with seven positive cases confirmed; while in Terengganu all four individuals screened were found negative.
“Of the total screening in this cluster, 45 are Malaysians and 14 are foreigners from four countries; India (six cases); the Philippines (six) while one case each from Singapore and Ghana,” he said, adding that close contact screening and active case detection activities for the four clusters are ongoing.
