KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 6,276 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the country today, taking the cumulative number of cases to 751,979, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He tweeted that Selangor continued to record the highest number of daily cases, with 2,836, followed by Negeri Sembilan (644); Kuala Lumpur (625); Sarawak (376); Johor (299); Sabah (242); Kedah (226); and Melaka (223).
Apart from that, Pahang recorded 210 cases, followed by Kelantan (159); Perak (137); Labuan (132); Penang (131); Terengganu (20); Putrajaya (11); and Perlis (five).
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement that of the 6,276 new cases, 16 were imported cases while the rest were local transmissions.
He said there were 4,929 recoveries recorded today, taking the cumulative total to 682,680.
"The total number of active cases now stands at 64,129 while 905 patients are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 452 of them requiring respiratory assistance," he said.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 62 more fatalities were reported today, involving 59 Malaysians and three foreigners aged between 32 and 104, with a majority of them having chronic illnesses. This takes the death toll to 5,170.
He also said that 23 new clusters were detected today, of which 13 were workplace transmission, eight involving the community and one each involving a high-risk group and educational institution.
Four of the new workplace clusters were recorded in Selangor, namely in Industri Jalan Ikan Duyung, Industri Subang Utama Enam, Jalan PPS Satu and Industri Jalan Masjid Batu Sembilan.
The other workplace clusters were in Perindustrian Murni Empat, Jalan Penaga Industri, Batu 23 Choh and Perindustrian Rami Satu in Johor; Perindustrian 33, TTDI Market and Jalan Prima Impian in Kuala Lumpur; Jalan Thean Teik (Penang); and Industri Bidor (Perak).
The community clusters were in Kampung Pangkal Jetas, Jalan 14/44 Padang Tembak and Kampung Nibong Lemal (Kelantan); Parit Keroma (Johor); Limbawang (Sabah); Tema Saan, Po Ai and Blimbing (Sarawak).
The high-risk cluster was in Jalan Emas Putih (Selangor) and the education cluster was in Meranti Indah (Pahang).
