KUALA LUMPUR: The number of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia dropped further to 6,241 today from 7,452 yesterday, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
This brings the cumulative figure for positive cases to 616,815, he said in a posting on his Twitter account.
Selangor continued to top the daily case list with 2,178, followed by Sarawak (600), Johor (565), Negeri Sembilan (556), Kuala Lumpur (415), Sabah (305), Penang (271) and Kelantan (270).
Melaka had 225 cases, Labuan (212), Perak (174), Terengganu (158), Pahang (155), Kedah (125), Putrajaya (30) and Perlis (two).
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement that, of the new cases, 14 were imported while the rest involved local transmissions.
He also said 5,133 individuals had recovered, taking the total number of recoveries to 526,809 while the number of active cases stood at 86,628.
The country's COVID-19 death toll now stands at 3,378 while 87 fatalities were reported over the past 24 hours, with the victims aged between 25 and 89.
He said there are currently 890 cases in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 444 requiring ventilator support.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 30 new clusters had been detected, with 18 involving the workplace, seven in the community and one each involving education institution, institution of higher learning, high-risk group, religious and detention centre.
The workplace clusters were Jalan Silat Harimau 21, Jalan Bertam 23, Jalan Teknologi Perintis Dua, Jalan Kebun Sayur, Jalan Parit Haji Zain, Ladang Tereh and Taman Aman (Johor); as well as Jalan Utama, Sawit Kinabatangan and Jalan Ketiau Tombovo in Sabah.
Others were Persiaran Sabak 26 and Jalan Waja Enam Belas (Selangor); Sri Cemerlang (Kelantan); Industri Chain Ferry and Hilir Sungai Kluang Tiga (Penang); Industri Bukit Nian (Melaka), Dah Saga (Kedah) and Jalan Alamanda Dua in Putrajaya and Selangor.
Dr Noor Hisham named the community clusters as Gusi, Tamalang and Murni C in Sabah; Bukit Jong, Kampung Bakong and Kampung Jejawi (Kelantan); and Jaya Gading in Pahang.
The education institution cluster was Jalan Kasturi Satu in Selangor, Behrang Stesen cluster in Perak (institution of higher learning), Bukit Gasing cluster in Selangor (high-risk group), Kilometer 35 Kemendor cluster in Melaka (religious) and Pagar Jalan Sultanah cluster in Johor (detention centre).
