KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded an all-time high of 126 COVID-19 fatalities today, bringing the cumulative death toll to 2,993, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
In a statement, he said Selangor topped the list with 29 deaths over the last 24 hours, followed by Kuala Lumpur (18), Negeri Sembilan (14), Kelantan (12), Johor (11) and Kedah (10).
Labuan recorded eight deaths, followed by Melaka and Terengganu with five each, Sarawak (four), Pahang (three), Sabah, Putrajaya and Perak (two each each) and Penang (one).
The previous record for daily fatalities was 98 registered on May 29.
"The number of individuals being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is 878, with 441 requiring ventilator support.
"The number of recovered cases in the past 24 hours is 5,777, raising the cumulative figure for recoveries to 501,898 and leaving active cases at 82,274," he added.
Over the last 24 hours, Malaysia recorded 7,703 positive cases, an increase over the 7,105 cases yesterday, with Selangor still registering the highest daily figure at 2,728.
He said 22 new clusters were detected today - 11 at workplaces, seven in the community, two involving educational institutions, one at a detention centre and one linked to a religious event - bringing the number of active clusters to 674.
Dr Noor Hisham said the workplace clusters include Jalan Waja Lima Belas in Selangor; Jalan Balam in Kuala Lumpur; Jalan Jee Cattleya and Jalan Pinang Riam in Sarawak; and Jalan SILC Satu, Teknologi Enam and Jalan Bioteknologi Satu in Johor.
The other workplace clusters are Pantai Kemayang in Kelantan, Industri Jemapoh in Negeri Sembilan, Jalan Tambun in Perak and Industri Bukit Panchor in Penang.
The community clusters are Nanga Meruan and Sungai Penyarai in Sarawak; Jalan Parit Raja Tengah in Johor, Kelisa Emas in Penang, Taman Fasa 2A (Perak and Kuala Lumpur), Dah Kampung Lancuk in Kedah and Kampung Alai in Perak.
The higher education clusters involve Jalan Beringin in Selangor and Jalan Yaacob Latif 2 in Kuala Lumpur, the detention cluster is DTI Kemayan, Pahang and the religious event-linked cluster is Jalan Mutiara Galla in Negeri Sembilan.
