COVID: Six Jalan Perak BBP firemen test positive, 28 under quarantine

BATU KAWAN: It is business as usual for the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), despite almost 50 per cent of its officers and personnel being quarantined after six of them confirmed positive for COVID-19.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director, Saadon Mokhtar, said that 28 officers and personnel had undergone swab tests and were currently undergoing quarantine at the fire station to curb the spread of COVID-19.
"At Jalan Perak BBP there are a total of 66 officers and personnel. Currently, six male firefighters have confirmed positive for COVID-19, while 28 people are undergoing quarantine until Aug 5 in a special area in the station because we want to contain the spread of the virus among other personnel and their family members.
"Meanwhile, six more firefighters are waiting to be called for the COVID-19 screening test. Currently, the condition of the six members who are infected with COVID-19 is stable, and they are undergoing quarantine at their respective homes," he told reporters here today.
Earlier, Saadon, representing state JBPM, and Penang Crime Awareness and Public Safety Organisation (CCPSS) chairman, Datuk Mohamad Anil Shah Abdullah, jointly launched an online suicide awareness programme.
