KUALA LUMPUR:The number of new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia has soared to a new high with 871 cases today.
Seven deaths were reported as of 12 noon today, making the total number of cumulative deaths in Malaysia due to the plague currently at 187 cases.
At the same time, Malaysia also recorded the highest number of COVID-19 recovery cases with a total of 701 cases.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of cases in Malaysia is at 20,498 cases, with active infectious cases increasing to 7,049.
All the new cases today are local infections involving 745 citizens and 124 non-citizens.
‘’Sabah still recorded the highest new infections with 702 cases (80.6 per cent).
“Out of 871 new cases reported, five are imported cases, involving three citizens and two non-citizens,’’ he said in a media conference at the Ministry of Health (MOH) today.
Dr Noor Hisham said 97 cases (11.1 per cent) were from the Tembok Cluster, Remand Prison Cluster, Seberang Perai Prison and Kepayan Prison Cluster which were isolated cases in prisons.
A total of 9.6 per cent involved cases in the Klang Valley, namely, Selangor (72 cases) and Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory (7 cases).
Detailing the number of cases in other states, Dr Noor Hisham said Penang recorded 45 cases, Kedah (nine), Sarawak (five), Perak (10), Terengganu (two), Johor (one), Negeri Sembilan (three) and Melaka (one) and Labuan Federal Territory (nine).
‘’From the total cases today, two cases were those returning from Sabah, making the number of cases reportedly having a history of visits to Sabah since Sept 20, 2020 at 443 cases,’’ he said.
MOH had also identified four new COVID-19 clusters, which is Bah Layangan Cluster, Alma Cluster, Auto Cluster and Kepayan Prison Cluster.
