COVID-19: MAEPS Serdang Quarantine and Treatment Centre receives first batch of 12 patients

The Low Risk COVID-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centre at the Malaysia Agricultural Expo Park (MAEPS) here has received 12 patients in the first phase.

According to its director, Dr. Md. Anuar Abd Samad @ Mahmood, the number is expected to increase in the near future with acceptance only for low risk patients.

"We have started receiving COVID-19 positive patients since April 21 and there may be further increase based on the latest information from the hospital.

"Admission here will be filtered because we focus on patients who are asymptomatic and at low risk," he said during a check by Astro AWANI at the quarantine centre on Thursday.

Dr. Md. Anuar added that the quarantine centre operates with the same basic equipment as the regular hospital and does not have the facilities of an intensive care unit (ICU) to provide critical care.

"We do not have such facilities as in the ICU and that is one of the reasons why we have low risk COVID-19 admission requirements because we are worried that we cannot afford to provide critical care," he added.

The check found that 64 out of the total 400 beds in the centre were already open in Hall A. In addition, the centre also provided 240 beds in Hall C as a preparation if healthcare workers were infected.

Currently, the quarantine centre also receives patients from COVID-19 hospitals including Hospital Tuanku Jaafar Seremban and Hospital Rembau in Negeri Sembilan as well as several hospitals around the Klang Valley.
