COVID-19: Malaysia logs 19,733 cases today, Sarawak highest at 3,100

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported a slight rise of new COVID-19 cases today with 19,733 infections.

In a tweet, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the overall total number of infections now stands at 1,900,467.

Sarawak topped the list for a continuous third day with 3,100 cases reported.

Selangor registered 2,989 cases, followed by Penang (2,474), Sabah (2,067), Johor (1,867), Kedah (1,564), Kelantan (1,471) and Perak (1,319).

The states and Federal Territories that recorded fewer than 1,000 cases are Terengganu with 904, followed by Pahang (700), Kuala Lumpur (537), Negri Sembilan (256), Melaka (375), Perlis (74) Putrajaya (29) and Labuan (7).

Meanwhile, the current status of COVID-19 bed capacity and utilisation, as of September 8, 2021 are as per follows:

According to the report from the Ministry of Health (MOH), only three of the new cases are imported, while 19,730 are of local transmissions.

Another 361 more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to 19,163.

A total of 22,701 patients have been discharged after recovery, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,632,631 as of to date.

Of the remaining 248,673 active cases, 904 patients are in the intensive care unit and 430 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
