COVID-19: Malaysia logs highest daily cases to date with 9,353

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded a total of 9,353 COVID-19 cases, its highest-ever daily infections since the start of the pandemic.

From the total number of cases reported, 9,342 were local transmissions, while 11 were imported cases.

The country's daily cases has risen steadily amid a struggling healthcare system, despite being imposed with a targeted lockdown since June 1.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted on the total number of infections which now stands at 827,191.

According to the data from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Selangor is leading with a total of 4,277, while Kuala Lumpur registered 1,398 cases and Melaka reported 835 cases.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan detected a total of 638 followed by Johor (399), Kedah (364), Sarawak (352) and Sabah (251).

Pahang reported 247 infections, followed by Penang (180), Perak (145), Kelantan (89), Labuan (85), Terengganu (50), Putrajaya (39) and Perlis (4).

MOH also recorded 87 new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 6,067 so far.

A total of 5,910 patients have been discharged upon recovery, bringing the total cured and discharged to 737,103.

Of the remaining 84,021 active cases, 959 are being held in intensive care and 451 of those are in need of breathing aid.
