COVID-19: Malaysia records another death, 134 new positive cases

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed another case of COVID-19 death, bringing the cumulative number of deaths in Malaysia to 77 cases.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said as of 12 noon on Monday, there were 134 new positive cases and had resulted in a total of 4,817 cases of COVID-19 in the country.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, there were 168 cases that have recovered and allowed to be discharged, resulting in a cumulative total of 2,276 cases or equivalent to 47.3 per cent of the total cases.

“Therefore, after the cumulative cases are deducted from both cases of recovery and deaths, the total number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 2,464 cases. They have been separated and are being treated in hospital.

“To date, 66 positive cases of COVID-19 are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Of these, 36 cases require respiratory assistance,” he said at a daily press conference here on Monday.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the addition of another COVID-19 related death resulted in a cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in the country of 77 cases (1.6 percent of the total number of cases).

The details of a case of death as of April 13, 2020 are as follows:

The 77th death case (Case 2797 case) was a 62-year-old Malaysian citizen with a history of heart disease, hypertension and kidney disease. He was a rally attendee in Seri Petaling. He was hospitalized in Malacca on March 31, 2020 and was pronounced dead on April 13 at 9:15 am.
