COVID-19: Malaysia records decline in daily cases, back to two digits

The number of daily COVID-19 infections has returned to two digits with only 15 positive cases reported over the past 24 hours.

Director-General of Health Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said it was the result of a government-focused approach to curb the spread of COVID-19 cases.

"Following the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in recent days in Malaysia, the new cases have dropped to two digits.

"Of the 15 new cases today, five cases are local among Malaysian citizens.

"The increase in COVID-19 positive cases reported over the past few days is due to the detection of COVID-19 cases in some Immigration Detention Depots (DTI) and other active clusters involving non-Malaysian citizens," he said at a daily press conference here on Wednesday.

According to the statistics, as of noon on Wednesday, 15 new cases have been reported, resulting in a total of 7,619 cases of COVID-19 in Malaysia while the number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity was 1,421 cases.

According to Noor Hisham, of the 15 new cases reported, six were imported cases of overseas infection and out of nine local cases, four were non-Malaysian.

At the same time, no COVID-19 related deaths were reported today, maintaining the cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia at 115 cases or 1.51 per cent of the total number of cases.
