COVID-19: Malaysia records highest daily tally with 2,335 new cases
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 11 cases of imports receiving infection from abroad were recorded while 2,324 were local transmissions.
KUALA LUMPUR:Malaysia recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 cases today with 2,335, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 103,900.
The previous highest number of cases ever recorded was 2,234 on December 10.
Director-General of Health, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said out of the total, 11 cases of imports receiving infection from abroad were recorded while 2,324 were local transmissions.
In the same development, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur reported the highest new daily cases with 728 (31.2 per cent), followed by Selangor (710), Johor (412), Sabah (248), Penang (58), Kelantan (54), Negeri Sembilan (33), Perak (26) and Pahang (19).
Dr Noor Hisham explained that 677 cases in Kuala Lumpur were detected from clusters and COVID-19 close contact screening that was actively conducted in the field.
Kedah and Federal Territory of Labuan each recorded 16 cases, Sarawak (6), Melaka (5), Federal Territory of Putrajaya (3) and Perlis with just a single case.
The total number of recovery cases from COVID-19 today was 874, bringing the total number of cases recovered to 83,414.
Two new deaths were also recorded today, bringing the cumulative number of death cases to 451.
Meanwhile, 108 people were still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 50 of them needing respiratory assistance.
